Hello- It really bums me out every time I see my records stacked horizontally in a pile. I guess it's slightly better than when they were filed upright next to the record player. One day, I was horrified to find the whole stack had slanted, and the last record got squished, bowing under the slanty weight.
To you vinyl-connoisseurs, what's the best method for storage? My collection is not big, so at this point I just need something small / transportable. I want to do right by these precious musical discs. Recommendations?
A shelf of some kind, that is at least 12" deep, so that you can store them upright. What was wrong with upright next to the record situation?
Oh, and another thing to consider is record weight adds up to something VERY heavy! It's important to have something that has lots of support - especially as your collection grows.
Personally, I use the Ikea Expedit. I know, I know... Ikea. But's it's just so perfectly designed for this!
I don't use the bottom shelves because I am old and I don't like to bend over that much (I found i never listened to the stuff on the bottom shelf) and mu cats like to scratch at the bags on the records when they are the bottom. I use that shelf for milk crates full of cds and overflow tapes. Milk crates also fit perfectly!
