@george - what?! don't tell me that! i'm still trying to catch up! damn PBS streams the videos, so I can't load it at the cawfee shop and then bring it home to my internetless apartment to watch. alas!
now i'm really nervous. oh gawd who died? wait don't answer that.
I'm all caught up. @olenzeke just finished the first episode of season two and has been meowing the theme song.
will it just be three more episodes to the end of the season, you think? i wonder if they'll try to drag it out like most American sitcoms. Maybe they'll be classy and already have an end season in mind.
Yes, and I have to say that it was not as good as the others. It's sort of surprising how close-minded Mary can be sometimes, despite what she's seen in six years. Feels like Edith's really maturing though. But wow! Lord Richard! That was unexpected.
Did PBS always do previews of the next episode? We watched season one on netflix, and I liked it far more when I didn't know what I was anticipating for next week.
next week looks so intense! I have heard from people who watched the already aired brit version that get's really good. but overwrought and borderline self-parody from others.
You were surprised by Lord Richard? That dude is OBVIOUSLY a total dirt bag.
I feel like Edith is gearing up to do something really stupid.
Based on the preview, I don't think Bates killed his wife. Remember how awfully angry the wife was? Swearing vengeance on Bates? I bet she "baited" him there to leave a scratch on his face. He left her alive and well, didn't lay a finger on her. But if her only aim in life was to make Bates miserable, maybe she felt like she could only achieve that with her own death and thus, killed herself.
P. Gordon - I think he's real. Don't you think she would've been able to tell by now?
Bigger question yet: Assuming P. Gordon is real and Mary leaves Lord Richard for William - do you think she'll truly be okay being a solicitor's wife? After all, her "lot inherits paintings," etc. etc. For all that she's matured in six years, IDK that love is enough for her.
It gets redonkulous, right? So much is happening, so so so so much.
Matthew's magical recovery. The convenient death of Livinia. The sudden change in pallor and palette. the arrest of mr. bates. lord grantham's indiscretion. Ethel's "bastard" child. whatever the fuck is going on with thomas. sybil's wedding.
I am really waiting for Edith to mess something up again.
so so so much!
This is why I do watch television. absurd ridiculousness. i don't think it was helped by doubling up the episode. They've done it twice now. why?
Srsly! I waved it away when people said it's getting soap-opera-y, but now I'm afraid they're just about there. No more dramas or else I'm not watching in protest! (I did that with Glee after the first five episodes)
Thoughts on Lavinia? It was a bit bullshit although I'm not sure what resolution would've been acceptable.
And I have faith in Edith! She's going to go somewhere so that she can do meaningful work! Cora is now paying attention to her, too, which I think will be good for her. Although I do wonder... she's not quite as free-spirited as Sybil, but I also can't imagine that she'd ultimately be happy married, even though she seems to think so.
@dennetmint I think it is impossible for anyone to be as pure as Lavinia seems to be. Such a shallow pawn character.
Do you think Patrick will come back? That seems like such a weird non-sequiter for it not to be real. Like he had to have been the real deal for it to be a tragedy - and so far that's all his going seems to be.
@george oh i totally bet patrick is coming back. because that would make sense, right? another wrench in mary and matthew's wheel. several years later, i still don't think that she would marry entirely just for love.
