We have a course in the Art Department at GVSU called Interactive Studio that is based around using a program called MAX in screen-based, object and spatial constructions. The MAX environment offers lots of pre-built modules that allow users to employ powerful programming through a well organized graphical interface. The course also incorporates using ARDUINO boards and various inputs/outputs image, video, sound. . .
Who is into this stuff in GR? We're especially interested in students already at GVSU (in any departments) or those interested in the course.

The course is Art 394 Interactive Studio (CRN 18021). Offered in Fall Semester TTH 11-1:50pm. It is part of the Visual Studies program.
My (our?) friend Elise is going to be in town at the end of January and is flying back Sunday (I think...) February 5. Before she gets an Amtrak ticket she is wondering if anyone would be driving to Chicago that weekend (Friday 2/3 or Saturday 2/4) that would have room for her. I can't confirm but I'm optimistic that she'd make it worth your while via compensation or conversation. That's all negotiable.

I'm heading to Maryland in March and moving to Chicago in May. Anyone looking for an apartment during that time period, please get a hold of me or one my roommates. The apartment is located near Wealthy and Lafayette. The rent is 300 dollars a month and includes utilities. There is no lease but you will need to give the landlords some basic info about yourself (contact info, employment, reference ext).

Thank you for your time,
Chris
chrisoposnow@gmail.com

Hello-
It really bums me out every time I see my records stacked horizontally in a pile.
I guess it's slightly better than when they were filed upright next to the record player.
One day, I was horrified to find the whole stack had slanted, and the last record got squished, bowing under the slanty weight.

To you vinyl-connoisseurs, what's the best method for storage?
My collection is not big, so at this point I just need something small / transportable.
I want to do right by these precious musical discs.
Recommendations?

I was really impressed by the show last Friday night at Nice Gallery. Really ambitious - to the point where it could have been a disaster (but wasn't). Really good mix of emerging and established artists, With so many artists in the mix, I thought the quality on work would but way more scattershot. But I was overall impressed by the work on display and the way it was laid out. My only complaint, really, is the catalog. While I appreciate there actually was one, I wish there had been more to it... Just a list of names? I want images and ideas!

But, overall, I think this was one of the most well put together exhibitions I went to this year. My compliments to Nice.

The lack of a collecter's market for art in Grand Rapids is rightfully much lamented, but Friday night I saw people EXCITED about collecting art. I heard that there was even a black Friday-esque stampede at the beginning. I suppose that gives it a weird competition vibe, but I hope this is a sign of an overall growth in collecting as a thing that will reach beyond number gimmicks (50x50, 100x100, etc.). It would be nice to live in a town where people bought the art they like.

@jkraus, @kevinbuist, @geoffrey y'all had rad pieces! How was it from the artist's end?
